Nielsen’s description or explanation of the way
individuals read or scan the web is very relatable to me because I prefer to
actually hold literature and feel the turning of pages. It is not a must but if
it is not in my hands, I do not give it much effort or attention as it does not
seem important.
When asked to take notes from the web, I do not print out the
article but I do handwrite my notes in a pad. Reading and writing on or from
the web does not seem as personal and requires an extra effort to create the
desired results for me. It is a very weird thing that I cannot aptly explain it
this all makes any sense.
I read the webpage as required but it is not my
preferred method of reading. I do not recall ever highlighting anything on a
webpage as I read because I really do not give internet reading the time to
find something worth highlighting.
Online reading has affected my print reading per say
but it has made me appreciate a sturdy book. There is just something about
paper. I understand that online literature is more economical as related to the
saving of trees and etcetera but books are timeless. Though they are
perishable, a book defies time and if preserved, can last many lifetimes and
civilizations over. The internet age is just the need fad but I am sure there
will be something to replace eBooks and the sorts soon.
i agree with you because i dont really do online reading unless its required of me. if i do any online reading i mostly just scan it looking for the key terms and reading from there. i do prefer to print out the text rather than read it online because i like the have it in my hand and read, take notes on the side margins or highlight if need be. i just feel like i can connect with the text better and i have more interest in the reading.
